MEET THE FOUNDER
Gabe Hogan is not your average tax guy. He’s a tax strategist, attorney, and former IRS federal agent who knows the system inside and out—and more importantly, how to help you legally keep more of your hard-earned money.
Even though his tax knowledge is intricate and vast, he communicates in plain English, simplifying complicated tax strategies for everyone—from first-time investors to seasoned professionals—so they can understand and leverage the best opportunities available. He is committed to transforming your tax challenges into opportunities.
The Credentials
Gabe’s qualifications go beyond those of a classic CPA. At the end of his name you will find “JD LLM”, which means he is a Juris Doctor with a Masters in Law. His specialty? Tax. This is in addition to his BS in Accounting from Colorado State University.
While Gabe is not a CPA, he is licensed tax attorney, which means he can do everything a CPA can do for your taxes, but it also means he can represent you in an audit with the IRS.
What does this mean for you? Many clients have both. A CPA keeps the books clean and the financial statements (P&L or balance sheet) accurate. A tax attorney provides the legal framework that avoids costly mistakes and protects you if something goes wrong.
The Beginnings
Gabe’s origin story resembles a dime store novel. From his cowboy days on a ranch in Texas to climbing mountains in Colorado, he eventually chose to navigate the complex world of tax. Prior to his tax career, Gabe began as a news reporter in Lubbock, TX.
He holds an Accounting degree from Western State Colorado,
a law degree from Charleston School of Law, and
a Master’s in Tax Law from Southern Methodist University.
Furthermore, he spent four years as a federal agent at the IRS, where he audited high-net-wealth individuals and trained new IRS auditors.
After years of assisting clients with managing assets ranging from seven to 11 figures and leading tax strategy at a major firm, Gabe decided it was time to operate on his own terms. This led to the creation of Palmettos & Prickly Pears, his flagship tax firm designed to serve clients in a different way; focusing on crafting tax-efficient strategies that minimize risk and maximize savings.
When he’s not navigating tax laws, Gabe enjoys the Charleston sunshine with his wife, son, and daughter—whether at the beach, the ballpark, or exploring the great outdoors. His family is also actively involved in their community, volunteering with church ministries and finding ways to give back.
If you’re looking for a tax pro who’s been on both sides of the system and knows how to make it work for you, Gabe’s your guy.
